The Silvretta: Austria's touring skiing paradise
Do you love backcountry skiing and touring skiing in the heart of untouched valleys? PowderWeGo has prepared for you a fabulous freeriding holiday in the Tyrol region. This week of touring skiing takes place in the Silvretta mountain range, considered THE touring skiing paradise. Come and discover Austria in winter and the most beautiful routes that our backcountry ski instructors and mountain guides have specially selected for you!
Austria, and in particular the Silvretta, has a lot to offer: in addition to its extensive ski areas with state-of-the-art facilities, the region is known for its exceptional snow cover for almost seven months of the year.
The landscapes are sublime, the refuges comfortable and warm, the glaciers not too steep and the Tyroleans particularly welcoming. This combination is the ideal recipe for a gentle introduction to Austria's major ski routes and winter sports.
Going with PowderWeGo means having the assurance of high quality services and personalised support on each freeride route. Our priority is to offer you the best ski holiday in Austria, with your comfort and safety in mind. For this reason you will be supervised by a qualified and experienced mountain guide throughout your stay. In addition, each traveller will receive a comprehensive safety pack. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced freerider, we can tailor the experience to your desires!
Ski holidays in Austria: a complete change of scenery! The country has about 60 natural parks and five national parks. The fauna includes over 30,000 species: chamois, marmots, jackdaws and ibexes inhabit the alpine environment. The Alps occupy two thirds of the area and the highest point is the Grossglockner (3,797 m). There are 700 peaks over 3000 m. The state of Tyrol and its capital Innsbruck lie to the west. The local culture is rather special because of its traditions and folklore, especially singing.
The Silvretta mountain range is part of the Rhaetian Alps, the eastern region of the Tyrol, on the border between Austria and Switzerland. It extends over the valleys of the Inn and Trisana rivers. It covers 771 km2 (300 square miles), with many miles of trails. The highest point is Piz Linard, at 3411 metres above sea level, which is mainly composed of crystalline rocks. It is an Eldorado for winter sports such as freeriding and touring skiing. The refuges and the welcome are reputed to be among the warmest in the Alps.
We will start this wonderful freeriding trip in Austria in Vorarlberg (Tyrol) to go skiing on the Pitztal glacier, one of the most beautiful glaciers in Austria, before reaching Bielerhöhe and then the highest pass of the Silvretta range. After days in the wilderness, you can enjoy the comfort of the accommodation that we have chosen for its character and authenticity, including the famous Bielerhöhe Berggasthof Piz Buin hotel,
cut off from the world and surrounded by majestic peaks. In the evening you can enjoy local specialities, from the famous cheese-based comfort food to traditional Alpine liqueurs.
